History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back EVOLUTION OF MODELS OF ATOMIC NUCLEI A.M. Smolegovskiy General principles of modeling of atomic nuclei are discussed. The models of the atomic nucleus, which have received the greatest distribution, are considered. The assertion of the mathematical style of research (from the position of the theory of matrices, group theory and the method of symmetry adapted to the study of the nucleus) in nuclear physics was noted in the works of M. Goeppert-Mayer and Yu.P. Wigner. The contribution of Russian physicists to world studies of nuclear models is singled out: G.A. Gamov, D.D. Ivanenko, Ya.I. Frenkel, N.N. Bogolyubov, A.B.
