History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE PRODUCTION OF GUNPOWDER IN ST. PETERSBURG FOR THE NEEDS OF ROCKET TECHNOLOGY OF THE XIX CENTURY V.I. Popov, V.V. Popova This article is devoted to the production of gunpowder and powder pulp for the needs of missile artillery in St. Petersburg in the XIX century. The technical state of the powder production and the stages of its modernization are shown. Particular attention is paid to the development of a recipe for a moving missile composition. The reasons for the refusal of smoke (black) gunpowder in artillery in the 1870s are revealed.
