History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back L.D. LANDAU AND L.M. PYATIGORSKY. ANAMNESIS OF CONFLICT V.B. Gundyrev The emergence of Soviet theoretical physics took place against the backdrop of harsh social, social, domestic and foreign policy conditions. A different understanding of the different attitudes to these conditions led to different kinds and levels of confl ict. One of such conflicts was the relationship of L.D. Landau and his first graduate student LM. Pyatigorsk. The paper analyzes the causes of the conflict, its consequences for the participants, as well as the role of third parties, both in the escalation of the confl ict in the second half of the 1930s, and in its active discussion in the 1990s. materials are given both offi cial and personal, showing, on the one hand, the groundlessness of LM's accusations. Pyatigorsky in his involvement in the arrest of L.D. Landau, and on the other hand - the commercial interest of the author of the biography of L.D. Landau, who put forward such a charge.
