History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE BIRTH OF FRUMKIN ELECTROCHEMICAL SCHOOL UPON KARPOV PHYSICO-CHEMICAL INSTITUTE M.L. Khrushcheva, G.A. Tsirlina We consider the research topics of academician A.N. Frumkin, the founder of a famous electrochemical school, at the end of 1920th and beginning of 1930th (shortly after he moved to Moscow). During this starting period of Frumkin school its founder had been awarded the Lenin Prize (1931), the highest USSR state award. As the articles devoted to sorption processes on the coals dominated during this period, one can conclude that the Prize was awarded just for this coal research, being of high interest for applications. Scientific biographies of coautors of Frumkin’s coal articles (R.Kh. Burshtein, B.P. Bruns, S.D. Levina and S.S. Vasil’iev) demonstrate that Frumkin school is genetically linked to the outstanding Russian electrochemists of the previous period, including I.A. Kablukov, V.A. Plotnikov, and V.A. Kistyakovskii.
