Savvina In July 2019, the centenary of the birth of the famous domestic historian of mathematics, honored worker of education in Ukraine, honored teacher of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute, member of the Moscow and St. Petersburg Mathematical Societies and the Ukrainian Society of Historians of Science, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor Vyacheslav Dobrovolsky. The range of his scientific research is very wide: from biographical essays containing biographies of famous mathematicians, both domestic (M.V. Ostrogradsky, V.P. Ermakov, V.P. Velmin, D.A. Grave, etc.), and foreign (Al-Khwarizmi, O.L. Cauchy, J.L. Dalamber) to fundamental monographs that shed light on the history of the formation of geometry, mathematical analysis, as well as one of the most important branches of differential equations - the analytical theory of differential equations. Studies on the history of mathematics education in Ukraine’s higher educational institutions, in particular, Kiev State University and the Kiev Polytechnic Institute, run through the red thread through all his scientific work. With his studies, he raised the bar of historical and mathematical research in the USSR to a level that not many of his contemporaries could correspond to.
