Paraskevopulo The article discusses the problems of training engineers of means of communication in the first transport university in Russia during the first third of the XIX century. The Institute of Corps of Engineers of means of Communication was founded 210 years ago in December 1809, later it was called the Leningrad Institute of Railway Engineers, now Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University. The main attention was paid to the mathematical sciences and graphic arts, as the basis of professional engineering education. The article shows the influence of scientists of the Institute A. Betancourt (1758–1824), K.I. Potier (1785–1855), M.G. Destrem (1789–1855), A.Ya. Sevastyanov (1796–1849), N.O. Kraft (1798–1857) on the formation of domestic technical education. Engineering activity of A.F. Lviv (1798–1870) is considered and his creative work on the design of original garden bridges. Its original drawings are given. The creative activity of scientists and graduates of IKIPS, the traditions created by them, have an impact on the modern educational process at Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University.
