History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back TO THE HISTORY OF CREATING SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATIONS IN NOVOSIBIRSK IN THE YEARS OF THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR N.A. Kupershtokh The article discusses the activities of scientists during the war, which led to significant results in the interests of the country's defense, as well as to new organizational solutions in the scientific and technical field. It is established that academician S.A. Chaplygin contributed to the deployment of the aerodynamic base in Novosibirsk, coordinated through the Committee of Scientists created by him the activities of the scientific and educational community of Novosibirsk for the speedy solution of defense tasks. Representatives of the USSR Academy of Sciences Commission on mobilizing the resources of the Urals, Western Siberia, and Kazakhstan for the country's defense were originally based on the committees of scientists in the Novosibirsk Region. When developing recommendations in the most important areas of the Siberian economy, scientists of the USSR Academy of Sciences took into account the recommendations of local scientific forces on certain problems. The cooperation of European and Siberian scientists made it possible to formulate the concepts of the first research institute in the field of aviation and the first academic branch in Siberia.
