History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back STUDY OF ANAEROBIC MICROORGANISMS IN SKRYABIN INSTITUTE OF BIOCHEMISTRY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF MICROORGANISMS V.A. Shcherbakova The article is devoted to the history of the origin and development of studies of anaerobic microorganisms conducted at the Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology of Microorganisms named after G.K. Scriabin RAS. Anaerobic microorganisms present in diverse ecological niches use alternative energy storage strategies in the absence of oxygen, which allows them to play a key role in maintaining the global cycles of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur. The main results obtained in this area of the Institute's scientific activity with an emphasis on the last decade are presented.
