History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back INVENTION AND PATENT SERVICE OF THE ALL-RUSSIAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF VEGETABLE PRODUCTION R.A. Meshcheryakova, T.N. Surikhina The article refl ects the main milestones of the development of invention in the USSR and the Russian Federation and at the All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Production (VNIIO). A distinctive feature and specifi city of the USSR was the massiveness of invention, which determined its great importance in accelerating scientifi c and technological progress, so necessary for the young Soviet state, which was previously a purely agrarian country. Until 1970, mass inventions included not only inventions, but also rationalization proposals. A great contribution to the development of scientific and technological progress in vegetable growing was made by inventions created by the employees of the institute. Until 1965, applications on official subjects were drawn up for inventions not on behalf of the institute, but on behalf of individual authors. The fi rst copyright certificates for inventions by the institute staff were received in 1933. The institute’s archive contains only 392 title documents for the period from 1964 to 1998, including copyright certificates and patents for inventions – 181, copyright certificates for selection achievements – 211. As of January 1, 2020, the institute has copyright certificates in its portfolio and patents for inventions of about 250, for selection achievements - more than 300, reflecting the results of scientific work in almost all areas of research.
