Kuryatnikov, Yu.A. Malinovskaya, A.Yu. Klimochkina The article reconstructed the historical picture of the occurrence of oil shale processing in the Samara region. The facts and events are established, the mutual influence of which served as prerequisites for the emergence and development of this industry in the territory under consideration. In the course of the work, previously unknown facts were obtained about the formation of a scientific and production base for the processing of oil shale in the Volga region, historical figures were identified who played, in the authors’ opinion, a key role in the history of the development of oil shale chemistry, and the circumstances were determined under which exactly such a path of development of the domestic oil shale industry.
