Kupershtokh The article analyzes the most important events in the history of the geological science of Siberia in the second half of the XX century through the personal stories of academicians Andrei Alekseevich Trofi muk and Vladimir Stepanovich Sobolev. Leaving for a new business their work in the European part of the country at the end of the 1950s, these scientists fully realized their scientific and organizational potential at the Novosibirsk Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Academicians A.A. Trofimuk and V.S. Sobolev went down in the history of domestic and world science not only due to fundamental scientific results. They created new scientific directions and founded scientific schools. Today the name of A.A. Trofimuk named the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the SB RAS, after V.S.
