History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back MIKHAIL PAVLOVICH CHERNYAEV: UNKNOWN BIOGRAPHY PAGES R.A. Melnikov, V.E. Pyrkov September 2021 marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Pavlovich Chernyaev (1891–1962), a professor of mathematics, a well-known specialist in the field of synthetic, projective and differential geometry, as well as Chebyshev networks. For many years, he taught mathematical disciplines in universities in Rostov-on-Don. Meanwhile, there are no publications devoted to the study of his biography, the analysis of his scientific heritage and pedagogical activity. This article aims to restore the biography of the scientist based on the analysis of previously unknown archival documents, memories of relatives and colleagues. The time of M.P. Chernyaev’s life fell on difficult times for our Fatherland. He survived the First World War, the revolution of 1917, the Civil War, the difficult 30s of the XX century for the entire Soviet people, the Great Patriotic War, the Khrushchev thaw. All these events left an indelible mark on the fate of the scientist, but until the end of his days, M.P. Chernyaev worked in the field of science and education for the benefit of the Motherland.
