TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE TELEPHONY IN RUSSIA IN 1991–2010 |
M.Yu. Mukhin
The article is devoted to the problem of the dynamics of mobile telephony standards in Russia in the late XX – early XXI centuries. Based on the materials studied, the author came to the conclusion that the Altai and VOLEMOT systems developed in the USSR were not cellular in the full sense of the word, therefore it was even theoretically diffi cult for them to compete with cellular communication standards that came to our country in 1990-e years. On the other hand, such a late development of cellular telephony in Russia had its positive aspects. Since firstgeneration cellular communications did not have time to become widespread, Russian mobile telephony “jumped” over this stage and quickly moved on to second-generation cellular standards. The third generation mobile telephony was mastered just as quickly in Russia.
