History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back ON THE ROLE OF BAKU CUSTOMS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF RUSSIAN-IRANIAN TRADE RELATIONS IN THE XIX–EARLY XX CENTURY A.M. Ismailova In the article, based on a broad source base, which includes both published and unpublished documents, the author examines the role of the Baku Customs in the development of Russian-Iranian trade relations and the participation of the tsarist government in this process. The article presents Russia’s desire to strengthen economic ties between Russia and Iran, as well as the search for ways to eliminate the threat of the displacement of Russian textile goods by English goods in the markets of Iran and the South Caucasus. The government’s policy on merchant shipping in the Caspian Sea is studied, its effectiveness in terms of intensifi cation of Russian-Persian trade exchange in the XIX – early XX century is determined. Focusing in detail on the issue of the volume of trade turnover between Russia and Iran, the analysis of the actions of Iran and Russia in the trade and economic sphere is carried out, various issues of export and import, Iran’s trade turnover through the Caspian ports and the Caucasian border are investigated. The importance of the Baku customs in the transportation of goods, transportation, and trade relations between Russia and Iran is being studied. The article pays special attention to the role of Baku in the Russian-Iranian trade in the South Caucasus.
