TO THE 140th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ELECTRIC LIGHTING OF NEVSKY PROSPEKT. THE FIRST POWER PLANT ON A BARGE ON THE MOIKA RIVER |

The article is devoted to the history of the creation of the first central power plant for lighting Nevsky Prospekt, put into operation on a barge on the Moika River at the end of 1883. After the bankruptcy of the Electrotechnik partnership, the obligations to create all systems passed to the St. Petersburg branch of Siemens and Galske, headed by K.F. Siemens. The article describes in detail the search for a place for the first power plant, the activities of the main participants in the process, the composition of the main equipment of both the first power plant and lighting devices. Drawings of a barge with the main equipment of the fi rst power plant are presented for the first time. The documents of the archive of the Central State Library of St. Petersburg, as well as modern publications in the open press of the late 19th century, were used as sources of information.
