History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE STATE OF AGRONOMY AND AGRICULTURE IN FRANCE IN THE LATE NINETEENTH CENTURY AND THE FIRST THIRD OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY E.S. Khablova Agriculture and agronomy in France were characterized by irregular development throughout the period considered in this article. The phylloxera crisis, the slow pace of industrialization, the failure of protectionist policies, the First World War and the Great Depression did not improve the situation. Nevertheless, agriculture and agronomy developed despite the aforesaid difficulties. This article attempts to describe the tortuous path of development in these fields.
