History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back "IT IS NECESSARY TO HELP THE LABORATORY OF GENETICS TO FIND THE RIGHT LINE": FROM THE HISTORY OF THE LABORATORY OF RADIATION GENETICS OF THE INSTITUTE OF BIOPHYSICS OF THE USSR ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (SECOND HALF OF THE 1950s–FIRST HALF OF THE 1960s) S.V. Shalimov The paper is devoted to the establishment and development of the Laboratory of Radiation Genetics of the Institute of Biophysics of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The research is based on the new archival sources, mostly on the documents from the local Communist Party organization of the Institute. The documents illustrates that the activity of the Laboratory during the period of “Lysenkoism” were carried out in a difficult conditions. The staff of the Institute had mixed feelings about the disgraced geneticists. Besides, serious problems were caused by the absence of the Laboratory’s landscaped building. Nevertheless, the head of the Laboratory well-known Soviet scientist Nikolai Dubinin concentrated the scattered geneticists and started fruitful research.
