History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE STUDY OF THE KOLA PENINSULA IN THE FIRST THIRD OF THE XX CENTURY. IN THE SCIENTIFIC HERITAGE OF ACADEMICIAN A.A. POLKANOV T.P. Filippova The article updates attention to the role of Academician A.A. Polkanov (1888–1963) in the scientific development of the territory of the Kola Peninsula. Based on the documents of the personal fund of A.A. Polkanov, stored in the St. Petersburg branch of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and published works, the expeditionary and research activities of a scientist to study the Kola Peninsula in the first third of the 20th century are analyzed. The tasks and results of A.A. Polkanov's expeditions to the peninsula and their importance for further scientific study of the Kola North are being considered. Attention is paid to aspects of organization and conditions of expeditionary activities. It was concluded that the scientifi c heritage of A.A.
