SCIENTOMETRIC ANALYSES OF NOMINATIONS FOR THE NOBEL PRIZES. PRODUCTIVITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF NOMINATIONS BY LAUREATES FOR NOBEL PRIZES IN PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY (1901–1950) |
V.M. Tyutyunnik, G.T. Samharadze
A scientometric analysis of nominations for the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry for 1901–1950 made by Nobel Prize winners is carried out on the basis of declassified documents of the Nobel Committees for Physics and Chemistry in Stockholm. The basis for the analysis were two series of lengthy tables prepared by the author earlier with the original data in Russian: full information about all nominees and nominations; full information about all nominations of each Nobel Prize winner in physics and chemistry. For the first time definitions and formulas were introduced, using which values of productivity and efficiency of nomination by each Nobel Laureate in Physics and Chemistry were calculated. The results of the analysis showed that nominations by Nobel laureates in the first half century of the existence of the prizes were essential for the future receipt of the Nobel Prize by the candidate, although the specific values of productivity and effi ciency vary from 0 to 100 percent.
Keywords: Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry, nominations in 1911–1950, nominees, nomi-nators-laureates, scientometric analysis.
