Development of Equipment for Implementation of Rotary
Friction Welding Processes |

Friction rotary welding is an effi cient machine method for joining rods, pipes, shafts and other similar parts with a circular cross-section.
This work analyzes changes in the design of welding machines associated with the need to weld sections of increasingly larger diameters and
areas. It is shown that the transition from a layout with rotation of the part from an electric motor (conventional friction welding) to rotation
of the part from a fl ywheel (inertial friction welding) ensured that the costs of producing equipment for welding of large diameters were
maintained, as well as its operation within reasonable limits. The current trends in aircraft engine building towards the use of materials that
cannot be welded by fusion welding make inertial welding the only alternative in the manufacture of gas turbine engine rotors with a diameter
of 200 mm or more. In the aviation industry, the share of costs for mastering production and developing technology is very high, so these costs
must be taken into account along with the costs of purchasing and operating equipment. The work proposes a way to signifi cantly reduce the
costs of developing production through the modernization of machines that implement convection welding with direct drive.
