Throughout the Great Patriotic War, the Soviet Union, along with other countries, modernized its weapons despite the workload of the military production complex and the lack of workers at manufacturing plants, some experimental products became the basis for the modernization of existing types of small arms, some became limited copies for special tasks and did not enter mass production. However, not all products were successful, this article reveals the history of the creation of the submachine gun of the Karelo-Finnish SSR in the fi rst period of the Great Patriotic War – its design features, the infl uence of certain types of Soviet and Finnish light automatic small arms in the design and the reasons for the failure of this project at the initial stages of testing.
