History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Formation of a System for Observing Artifi cial Earth Satellites in Siberia (1957–1965) Murenko D.I., Osipov A.G. Aspects of the creation at the regional level of observation stations for artifi cial Earth satellites (AES), which were components of a unifi ed system that covered the entire country, are considered. Siberia occupied a special place here, since it made it possible to dramatically expand the basis of observations. The system of satellite monitoring stations has accelerated the application of space research results in the national economy, dual-use technologies, and new technical means. The conclusion is drawn: Siberian observation stations have made a signifi cant contribution to research in the fi eld of astronomy, geodesy, and the Earth’s ionosphere. The establishment of the satellite observation system made it possible to make signifi cant changes in the curricula of geodetic specialties and led to the creation of new disciplines and practical courses in higher educational institutions.
