The History of the Development of the Theory of Elliptic
Functions in Relation to the Problem of Rotation of Solids |

This article summarizes the results of historical and mathematical studies devoted to solving the problems of rotation of solid objects around a fi xed point.
On the one hand, motion was described by a system of nonlinear differential equations, on the other hand, integration was represented by elliptic functions.
The introduction and use of elliptic and hyperelliptic functions made it possible to reduce the problem of rotation of solids after the initial impact to its simplest
elements.
