The article describes the history of the invention of the copying and duplicating and typesetting and writing apparatus by M.I. Alisov. This was one of the fi rst attempts to mechanize the production of text printing forms suitable for reproduction by fl at (lithographic) printing. This attempt was made in the early seventies of the XIX century. The article describes the diffi culties of patenting and the problems of mass production of new equipment.
