History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back History and Prospects for Development of Expanded Clay Production Udalova E.A., Salov A.S., Sinitsin D.A., Yudin A.A., Rivkin S.G. The stages of development of scientifi c thought in the fi eld of development of porous materials for construction are considered. A historical analysis of production of porous materials from clay shales by fi ring is presented. It is established that the powerful base of the expanded clay industry served as the basis for the construction industry, which provided a solution to the acute housing problem in the 60-70s of the last century, and expanded clay concrete accounted for up to 80 % of the total volume of production of lightweight concrete for housing, civil and industrial construction in the USSR. It is shown that at present expanded clay concrete is one of the most promising building materials for solving the problems of rapid construction of mass, affordable and comfortable housing - durable and with a high level of environmental and fi re safety.
