History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Mark Iosifovich Farberov – Honored Scientist and Technology of the RSFSR, Creator of the Method of Producing Isoprene from Isobutylene and Formaldehyde (on the 125th Anniversary of his Birth) Chernov L.A., Volkov E.V., Aleshina N.Yu., Koshel S.G., Lebedeva N.V., Khlebnikova T.D. The article is dedicated to the life and scientific work of Mark Iosifovich Farberov – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist and Technician of the RSFSR. An outstanding scientist in the fi eld of chemistry, M.I. Farberov made a significant contribution to the development of monomer synthesis methods, and the new method he developed for producing isoprene from formaldehyde and isobutylene made it possible to begin industrial production of isoprene in the USSR 10 years earlier than abroad. In 1947, M.I. Farberov was elected to the position of head of the department of «Technology of Basic Organic Synthesis and Synthetic Rubber» of the Yaroslavl Technological Institute of the Rubber Industry, where he worked for 31 years. During M.I. Farberov's work at the Yaroslavl Technological Institute, more than 1,200 specialists received a «start in life», many of whom subsequently headed industrial enterprises and scientific institutions. In collaboration with his students and associates, M.I. Farberov published more than 400 scientific works, and more than 150 author's certificates were received.
