History of the Development of Soil Reinforcement Technologies
in the Construction Industry |

The article is devoted to the evolution of methods and technologies used to improve the stability and bearing capacity of soils throughout
the history of mankind. The key stages in the development of these methods are considered - from ancient times, when the simplest methods
of compaction and drainage were used, to modern high-tech solutions such as chemical stabilisation and the use of geosynthetic materials.
The article emphasises how the needs of construction, from the erection of monumental structures to the creation of infrastructure in diffi cult
conditions, have stimulated the development of new approaches. Particular attention is paid to the contributions of various civilisations,
including ancient Rome, China and India, to the development of soil reinforcement techniques. The article also touches on modern techniques
such as grouting, bituminisation, silicification and electrochemical strengthening, demonstrating their role in addressing current construction
challenges.
