History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back The Feat of the Soviet Higher School Shavshukova S.Yu., Mazitov R.M. Using the example of the activities of the Gubkin Moscow Petroleum Institute (MNI) during the evacuation in Ufa in the Great Patriotic War it is shown that in the most diffi cult conditions of wartime, the Soviet higher school withstood and continued to train specialists for the national economy of the country. The Great Victory was forged not only on the war fronts and in factory workshops, but also in student classrooms, because despite the sometimes unbearable living conditions, people did not give up, but continued to fulfi ll their duties with honor. Despite the numerous diffi culties associated with the recruitment of the teaching staff, the recruitment of students, insuffi cient material equipment and household problems, the MNI staff has done tremendous work to resume the educational process at a new location in a short time. In 1943, after the re-evacuation of the Institute to Moscow, the institute did not interrupt the educational process in Ufa having received the status of a branch. In addition to the main activity of training engineering personnel, the teachers of the Institute carried out scientifi c research aimed at solving urgent problems in the fi eld of oil production and refi ning. In particular, for the purpose of industrial development, local raw materials were studied, and the tasks of processing hydrocarbon raw materials with a high content of sulfur compounds and salts were solved. The creation of the higher educational institution of petroleum in Ufa was dictated by the need to develop Bashkiria as a center of oil production and refi ning, and solved the problem of providing the republic with qualifi ed engineering personnel. The evacuation of the MNI contributed to the formation of such an institute. Through the efforts of the relevant ministries and departments of the USSR, the BASSR, the heads and employees of the MNI, and later its branch, in 1941-1948, a solid foundation was created for the formation of the independent Ufa Petroleum Institute. Now Ufa State Petroleum Technological University continuously is developing from year to year, increases the number of students, the range of specialties and the effectiveness of training specialists for the Russian fuel and energy complex.
