History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Formation of the Academic Subject "Differential Geometry" in Russia Ignatushina I.V. The article examines the process of formation of differential geometry as an academic discipline in higher education in Russia during the XVIII–XIX centuries. The author identifies four main periods in this process: the fi rst period (the 30s – the end of the 70s of the XVIII century.) – the stage preceding the formation of the course of differential geometry in Russian universities; the second period (the 80s of the XVIII century – the fi rst third of the XIX century) – the stage of penetration of individual differential geometric information higher mathematics courses; the third period (30s – late 40s 19th century) – the stage of stabilization of the content of information on differential geometry reported in the course of mathematical analysis; the fourth period (the second half of the 19th century) – the stage of distinguishing differential geometry as an independent educational course.
