A Retrospective and Current State of the Caspian Sturgeon Population |
Guseynov K.M., Gasanova F.Sh., Khlopkova M.V.
In the last decades of the 20th and early 21st centuries, the increasing impact of anthropogenic factors (overregulation of river fl ow,
disruption of its intra-annual distribution, withdrawal of fresh water, chemical contamination with petroleum products, unregulated poaching
and biological invasions) led to a catastrophic decline in the number of sturgeon, the average value of their commercial return from natural
reproduction over the past 40 years has decreased by more than 60 times. The basic principle of protecting biological resources is their rational
use, based on maintaining optimal conditions for their natural or artificial reproduction.
Keywords: Caspian Sea, sturgeon population, history, anthropogenic impact.
