History of Development of Superplasticising Admixtures for Concrete |

The article explores the historical development of superplasticising admixtures for concrete, tracing the evolution from early plasticisers
to modern polycarboxylate-based systems. It highlights the main stages in the advancement of construction chemistry, including the
introduction of surfactants, lignosulfonates, naphthalene- and melamine-based superplasticisers, and the emergence of high-performance
polycarboxylate polymers. A comparative analysis of different generations of admixtures is presented in terms of their technological and
performance characteristics. Particular attention is given to the role of superplasticisers in the advancement of high-tech concretes, including
high-strength, self-compacting, and ultra-high-performance mixtures. The article outlines current trends in admixture research, including the
use of nanotechnology, secondary resources, and «smart» polymers. The study substantiates the significance of chemical admixtures as a key
factor in improving the quality and durability of concrete in modern construction.
