History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Historical and Comparative Analysis of Ecological Ideas in Christianity and Islam Alilova K.M. The article considers the problem of interaction between religion and ecology in the historical aspect. The 21st century is the century of solving one of the most pressing problems of mankind - saving nature, and therefore the life of all mankind. To solve this problem, it is necessary to unite all actively thinking people, including representatives of the clergy of different faiths. For example, Christianity can have a positive impact in solving the environmental crisis, being one of the sources of formation of environmental ethics. However, many theologians believe that it is focused on enslaving nature, and man has exalted himself and is opposed to the rest of the world. At the same time, Christianity has many provisions that say that nature is a repository of resources intended not for selfi sh and irresponsible consumption, but a house where man is not the owner, but a wise steward. The Holy Scriptures contain God's covenants for people, how they should act with each other and with the world around them, so as not to destroy it. Historically, Islam has also substantiated its attitude to environmental issues. Islamic laws have always negatively assessed active human intervention in nature. This is refl ected in 750 verses of the Koran, therefore Islam, like most other religions, calls for studying and refl ecting on the problems of the relationship between man and nature. Islam will help to understand that man's control over the world is not unlimited, and that his consumer attitude towards nature can ultimately be directed against himself. Therefore, the main thing is to form in people the correct attitude towards the surrounding nature based on universal human values, including religious traditions.
