History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back The Early Stage of the History of Radio Mechanics Smyk A.F., Spiridonova L.V. The article is devoted to the history of radio telemechanics, a field of scientific knowledge that combines remote control technologies and information transmission using radio waves. Radio telemechanics dates back to the late 19th century with the advent of radio communications and is associated with further discoveries by scientists from different countries demonstrating the possibilities of remote control of moving devices such as airplanes, ships and boats. The first experiments on the use of radio waves to control alarm devices, which were conducted by scientists and engineers both in Russia and abroad, are considered. A.S. Popov is recognized as the founder of radio mechanics all over the world. In 1895, he was the first to demonstrate the principles of radio communication, after which, in 1898, N. Tesla presented a model of a ship controlled by radio. Experiments on remote control of aircraft were carried out in the early twentieth century in the USA and Germany.
