History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Commission for the Protection of Nature of the Komi branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1959-1975): Main Directions and Results of Activities Yurova S.V. The article is devoted to the activities of the Commission for the Protection of Nature of the Komi branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the 1950–1970s as an important historical experience in preserving the natural resource potential of one of the northern regions of Russia – the Komi Republic. On the basis of documentary sources preserved in the funds of the Scientific Archive of the Federal Research Centre Komi Science Centre of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the history of the formation and functioning of the Commission, its role in the development of scientific approaches to the protection and restoration of natural resources of the republic, the organization of scientific research, and its interaction with state authorities are analyzed. It was concluded that the activities of the Commission made a significant contribution to the formation of mechanisms and practices of environmental activities that are important for the modern environmental policy of Russia.
