History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Flat Printing: from Lithography to Offset. The History of Color Printing Kuzmina N.G. The article describes the ways of reproducing color illustrations at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries. Industrial color printing became possible after the invention of chromolithography in the middle of the 19th century. Colorful printing has been constantly improved. In the early twentieth century, offset and later flexographic printing methods appeared. The textbooks provided the history and sequence of the application of new printing methods. The largest St. Petersburg printing enterprises specializing in color chromolithographic printing are listed, and their brief history is presented.
