History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Description by I.Kh. Gamel (1788–1862) of English Inventions on the Pages of the Newspaper "Northern Post" ("Severnaia pochta") Zakharchuk P.A. This article is devoted to the study of the scientific heritage of Academician I.H. Hamel, specifically, his publications in the newspaper Severnaya Pochta (1814–1818), which focused on English inventions. The purpose of this work is a comprehensive analysis of the aforementioned texts as a historical source on the history of technology, reflecting the state and trends in the development of technologies in the fi rst half of the 19th century. The subject of the study is notes covering a wide range of fi elds: industry, agriculture, transport, transfer printing, and decorative and applied arts. The results of the analysis show that the source under consideration contains not only descriptions of well-known English inventions, but also evidence of technologies that were subsequently lost.
