History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back The Development of Ballistic Science and the Methodology of Designing Weapons of Destruction (1930–1960) Glazunova O.I. Based on historical and scientific analysis, the article examines the development of ballistic research and the methodology of designing weapons in the USSR in the period 1930–1960. It shows the formation of Soviet ballistic science, the development of the theory of internal and external ballistics, and the transition from classical barrel artillery to rocket systems and nuclear missile weapons. Special attention is paid to the transformation of the experimental base, measuring equipment and field test methods, as well as the change of deterministic approaches to probabilistic and statistical approaches during the transition to missile ballistics.
