History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back History of the Water-Draining Machines of the Dock basin of the Kronstadt Canal of Peter the Great based on Wind Engines Petrushchenkov V.A. In the fi rst decades of construction and operation of repair docks and the dock basin of the Peter the Great Canal in Kronstadt, horsedrawn drives and wind engines were widely used. This article focuses on the description of wind engines and their design. It also examines the comparative characteristics of water-lifting mechanisms such as winches with boxes and ketens pumps, which were widely used at that time for pumping water from the holds of ships. The information is based on drawings and text documents from archival materials related to the history of technology used in the operation of the Kronstadt Peter the Great Canal.
