Louis de Broglie and the Twentieth-Century History of Physics |
A.F. Smyk
The name of Louis de Broglie, Nobel Prize in Physics (1929), ranks with the greatest physicists of the twentieth century, the founders of quantum physics. His scientific path is unique and interesting because during the life of Louis de Broglie has experienced both the highest recognition, and the utter forgetfulness, lack of interest in his research. Throughout the twentieth century, Louis de Broglie was engaged in theoretical questions of quantum physics. The first principles of wave mechanics were presented to them in three articles in 1923, and then summarized in a thesis in 1924. De Broglie relation to the problem of interpretation of quantum mechanics has undergone a complex evolution – from the recognition of the Copenhagen interpretation to the probability of its negation and a return to a deterministic interpretation.
Key words: Louis de Broglie; wave mechanics; history of quantum physics; pilot-wave theory; diffraction experiments the scattering of electrons; Solvay conference; Copenhagen interpretation. E-mail: afsmyk@mail.ru
