Impact of Technical Conditions upon the Shape of Baku Oil-Production Industry in 1900–1917 |
E.S. Tarakanova
The Baku oil-production area in 1900–1917 made from 75up to 95 % of the whole crude oil supply in Russia. But the private business in this industry failed to be sufficiently effective there; it could not realize the up-to-date technical rearmament. Besides the economical crisis in 1901–1903, Russian-Japanese war and the revolution in 1905, the oil production in Baku region was heavily impacted by the badly progressed complication of geological conditions: increasing depth of production wells and their watering, dropping of their productivity. Oil businessmen did not be able to provide the regular production, needed renewing of the drilling equipment, acceptable social policy. As a result, even before the October revolution, many specialists considered the oil industry nationalization as the only escape of the Russian oil production from the long lasted crisis. Key words: history of oil production; Baku oil field; drilling equipment. |
