Khristianovich in Foundation of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences of USSR and in Foundation of Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics V.M. Fomin, N.A. Kupershtokh The paper is devoted to the activity of academician S.A. Khristianovich (1908–2000) on foundation of first territorial Branch of Academy of Sciences in Siberia and on foundation of Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Sergey Alekseyevich Khristianovich was one of the initiators of restructuring of the network of scientific institutions in the middle of XX Century and of foundation of powerful interdisciplinary scientific center – Novosibirsk Academgorodok (Academic town), that is well known now all over the world due to its outstanding scientific results and due to its schools of thought. The real contribution of academician Khristianovich to foundation of Siberian Branch of Academy of Sciences of USSR and to foundation of Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in Novosibirsk was shown. Now this Institute is the one of the biggest research institute of RAS, in which the mathematical simulations in mechanics, aerogasdynamics, physical and chemical mechanics are developed.
