History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE GENESIS OF THE CONCEPT OF MULTIDIMENSIONAL INFORMATION COMPETENCE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COMPETENCE-ORIENTED EDUCATION L.M. Karaseva, A.V. Dorofeev Acquirement of information competence in the global information society and computerization of the production sector is a necessary result of the vocational training of students at the university. The article is devoted to the genesis of the concept of information competence in implementation of the competence-oriented education as a result of foreign and Russian studies. In foreign studies, information competence is most often defi ned by a list of its constituent knowledge, abilities and skills that the student should have to realize their own information needs. Russian authors defi ne the information competence in the following ways: 1) as one of the key competences; 2) in the context of information or communication culture; 3) as a component of professional competence; 4) as an integrative quality of a person. In this work the defi nition of information competence is considered in accordance with the multi-dimensional principle, which is widely used in the modern pedagogy. Information competence from the view of the multidimensional result of vocational education includes cognitive, technical and technological, personal, communicative and refl ective components and is characterized by operation with information of different nature, both personal and professional activities.
